Attacks on Gulf countries underscore threat posed by Iran

The wave of attacks launched by Iran in retaliation for the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei proves the level of threat posed by Tehran, a senior Bahraini security adviser told CNN.

“The recent missile strikes only reinforce our long-standing assessment of the nature of the threat emanating from the regime in Tehran,” the adviser told CNN.

The adviser noted that Bahrain has “decades of Iranian interference, subversion, and support for terrorism.”

“We know the playbook. We have dismantled networks, exposed financing channels, and confronted destabilization efforts from Iran’s regional proxies head-on,” the adviser said and added, “Bahrain, with the support of our allies and friends, will remain firm, resilient, and uncompromising in defending its national security interests.”

A senior Bahraini official told CNN that the country’s national security is “inseparable” from other countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

“An attack on Bahrain is not an isolated act — it is an attack on the collective stability of the GCC and on the broader international order that safeguards maritime navigation and regional security. Iran’s reckless missile adventurism will not alter Bahrain’s strategic posture,” the official said.

Earlier, the GCC held an emergency virtual meeting where members condemned Iran’s “flagrant and unjustified attacks.”

Over the weekend, Iran’s missiles rocked the Bahraini capital of Manama and struck near the US Navy base in the country.
