Greene cheers Lemon arrest over church protest: ‘That’s not journalism, that’s a
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said she “completely supports” the recent arrest of journalist Don Lemon, who attended a protest earlier this month that disrupted a church service in Minnesota.
The former CNN anchor is facing federal civil rights charges tied to the demonstration at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 18. Lemon has argued that he attended the protest as a member of the press.
Lemon and eight other defendants were indicted by a grand jury Friday on charges that they violated the 1994 Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which protects those exercising their First Amendment rights from attack or intimidation.
“I’m gonna say he violated the FACE Act,” Greene told “Real Time” host Bill Maher. “He went into a church, disrupted their worship, and then later in an interview, compared them to white supremacists.”
“That’s not journalism, that’s activism,” the Georgia Republican, who resigned from Congress earlier this month, added.
Demonstrators rallying against President Trump’s ramped up crackdown on illegal immigration in Minnesota interrupted a worship service after one of the church’s pastors was revealed to work for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Lemon livestreamed throughout the demonstration, and the Justice Department (DOJ) said he obstructed the movements of both the pastor and churchgoers.
